Peace and Happiness

age: 33

gender: female

Will this new year bring me peace, new beginnings and happiness

in my relationships and my carreer?

Yours is an important question because it speaks of something that so many of us want in our lives. The fact of the matter however is that there's good news and bad news. First the bad news. Simply put...neither the new year, nor any period in time, will bring you what you're hoping for.

The good news, however, is much more informative. First it's important to remember that we must all take personal responsibility for achieving Serenity and Joy and meaningful Transformation in our lives. Time...as an element of Nature is simply indifferent to our personal lives and their unfolding details and contingencies. So first, it's crucial that we take responsibility for learning how to understand Time. In a certain sense...because Time is more of a quality than a quantity...we can learn to tune into the intuitive aspects of our nature and thereby take actions and make choices that are in harmony with the quality of the time. That's what I mean when I speak of the Zeitgeist. The spirit or the quality of the moment in time is not impossible to understand...unless we feel that we truly are machines. Even the most rigidly, logical and rational adherent to the technological concept of linear time can feel cranky and tired on Monday morning (after a weekend's rest), and energized on Friday night...(not after resting...but after an exhausting week). Therefore...to recognize the spirit of the time is to learn how to be appropriate as well as efficient. What is appropriate in the life of a relationship will vary over the course of 24 hours...but to learn what is appropriate as well as when it is so requires a tremendous amout of attention and responsibility. We can't simply expect Nature to hand us what we think we want when Nature could care less about our agenda. We need to very conscientiously learn to tune into what Nature demands. Pitching a tent in the middle of a hurricane may seem absurd to most of us...but that is precisely what we do when we insist on sticking it out in an abusive relationship...or in a deadening job, working for an irresponsible boss or company.

The further good news is that you, personally, have access to a tremendous amount of inner wisdom. You are more connected to it than you believe or are aware of and often simply fail to heed those inner voices and warnings. It's not stupid to believe your intuitive hunches, nor is it stupid to use your imagination. It's a shame to ignore them. If you tune in...just remember that what you find will not be happiness. That's another aspect of the bad news. Happy is for children and infants...those who are not meant to be responsible or mature or even serene. Joy and serenity is for everyone...but is especially reserved for those who accept responsibility for their own suffering and learn to treat themselves with compassion and dignity.
